Under (self-induced) pressure 🎶
Friends, go easy on yourselves. And if that's tough for you I SEE YOU. But also... go find someone that will lovingly remind you to chill the eff out 😘
Life stuff (that you just can’t make up)
I'm not officially teaching classes until August, but in the past two weeks I have learned what to expect day to day for the coming year as well as exactly what I’ll be teaching. Conveniently, there is a 3-week cram version of what I'll be teaching in the fall that I can sit on this summer. I was asked on my first day at work if I could go ahead and support office hours to field some questions from students, especially with the summer version being such a fast-paced course. My overachieving self obviously said yes, but you guys, I haven't touched this stuff in at least 15 years and telling a student that you don't know the answers for a course you'll be responsible for teaching in one month... Well, it hurts on a few levels.
Needless to say, I decided to have a few cram sessions myself! Thank God the info is coming back quickly and other new instructors have been transparent enough to say they also don't know the answers (yet). But in my attempts to cram and with a friendly reminder from my spouse about my stress levels, I realized that I was putting an insane amount of pressure on myself just two weeks into a job that I have literally never performed before. Oh hey Type A with a side of perfectionist personality! 🙄
I wanted this job to see if I'd like to someday teach as my profession. I wanted this job so that I could serve as representation for women pursuing STEM. I also may have wanted this job to spend a year in the mountains 😜 And guess what?? I'm already achieving these goals even if my response is "I don't know, let's go ask someone else". Friends, go easy on yourselves. And if that's tough for you I SEE YOU. But also... go find someone that will lovingly remind you to chill the eff out 😘
What’s bringing me joy
This dreamy top. It’s simple, so cozy, and a new staple in my closet. I’ve already worn it on a hike, to church, and to work. It’s got a high price tag, but Athleta is a Type B Corp with an emphasis on sustainability so I can get on board. That said, sometimes you can snag exactly what you want off Mercari - which I did for $18! Happy shopping friends 😉
