Podcast Ep01: Women supporting women

My bestie and I chat through how important it is to find your people.
3

The stories that Kate and I could tell you! But seriously, we could blow your mind with the ridiculous things that have been said to us as we’ve progressed in our engineering careers that would never be said to our male counterparts. How do we keep going amidst the pushback and derogatory remarks when we are told or made to feel we don’t belong in a STEM field because of our gender?

Well… there are a lot of strategies and there’s no one size fits all approach. But, the one approach that has worked best for us is surrounding ourselves with other women that allow us to show up as our full selves (like each other!). We dive into this, imposter syndrome, talking about diversity with our colleagues, and more.

In this episode, we cover:

(00:00) Hellos

(01:15) How we met

(06:47) Kate’s occupation

(12:10) Imposter syndrome

(15:05) The impact of support systems

(21:37) “Do you want to know why women don’t make good engineers?”

(24:30) Moving up in our careers and finding fewer women at those higher levels

(25:28) Talking diversity with your colleagues

(32:55) Kate’s words of wisdom to women pursuing STEM and currently working within STEM

(35:24) Goodbyes
